Why a custom gazebo or pergola is the perfect addition to your client’s home

When building a home or upgrading a client’s living space, there’s an element that is arguably just as important as the home itself: the outdoor living space. As suppliers and manufacturers of quality building materials for real wood projects, maybe we’re a little biased– but we believe a high-grade, custom wooden pergola or gazebo is exactly what you need to elevate your client’s outdoor living space.

While you could pick up a run-of-the-mill gazebo online or at a home improvement store for minimal cost or effort, and simply plop it down in your client’s yard, there is no creative or special touch involved in the final space. The outdoor living space should collaborate with the design of the rest of the home. Not only does this enhance the overall visual experience, but it can also enhance the property value of your clients.

So how do you build a custom gazebo for your clients?

Start with the material.

The flimsy construction, mixed materials (which often aren't even real wood) and mass-produced look will not stand the test of time– or weather– that solid wood will. This will only leave your client disappointed and with a bad taste in their mouths. That’s where we come in. We’ve got the quality materials and are here to help you make their dream gazebo or pergola a reality. Not only that, we can help with precutting the wood and trim down to your exact specifications so you can build as soon as the product is delivered to your space.

Make the choice - gazebo vs the pergola.

The first step towards transforming a homeowner’s outdoor living space is deciding which structure will fit their needs best. Start by asking a few questions:

  • What will be the primary use?

  • Do they want to put furniture underneath? A grill? Maybe even a T.V for outdoor hangouts?

  • Do they want any plants to grow underneath it or up the sides?

The main difference between the two is the roof structure. A pergola provides partial coverage, allowing for some sunlight to come through the top, whereas a gazebo provides full coverage, offering complete protection from the weather.

If your client wants a true outdoor living room, where they can sit and relax regardless of the weather, we would recommend a gazebo to protect them and their belongings from the elements.

If you’re wanting something to partially cover a walkway, plan on growing plants or vines along the sides/roof or your client has completely waterproof furniture, a pergola is a nice way to still get some sunlight for plants during the day and stargaze at night.

Close the deal - How to sell your client on a custom gazebo or pergola

Now that we’re both excited about gazebos and pergolas, we want to help you get your client pumped about them as well. When suggesting a custom, solid-wood pergola or gazebo (especially versus a store-bought unit), you’ll definitely want to mention the value proposition. We went ahead and laid it out to make things easy for you:

  • Added value: A beautifully handmade gazebo or pergola adds instant value to a home, yet doesn’t cost an arm and a leg like a pool or firepit. These structures enhance the land value by producing shade, shelter and a place for people to gather. Your clients will get to enjoy it in the now, and rest assured that it will make their lives easier should they choose to put their house on the market down the road.

  • Transform the space: If you or your client is feeling stuck or uninspired by their outdoor space, this is a surefire way to completely transform their yard. These structures add interest and depth to a flat yard, while providing shade only mature trees can provide (which are either extremely expensive or take decades to grow).

  • Finally somewhere to unplug: In a world where we are fixated by screens and technology, wouldn’t it be nice to create a space in which to relax, where you can simply enjoy being outdoors? You don’t need to go on a retreat or hike to find peace outside when you create your own oasis in your backyard.
