It’s versatile

It’s sustainable.

The Best Options for Wood Siding

One of the many benefits to wood is that it comes in many different shapes, colors and sizes. However, not all wood species or profiles are ideal for exterior installation. We can help you navigate the best options for your environment and aesthetics. However, a good rule of thumb is to consider the nature of wood. Since wood is a natural element, it will expand and contract with humidity and other weather elements. Due to this feature, you need to use tongue and groove material and when you are installing make sure there is enough room between the spaces to allow the natural movement.

Here are the tongue and groove profiles we recommend:

  • Nickel Gap where the tongue goes inside the groove.

  • Shiplap where the material overlaps instead of interlocking like Nickel Gap

  • Rainscreen which will require a hidden clip or fastener system

  • Deckwise

Protecting Your Wood Siding

As mentioned before, wood siding over time will need to be replaced. However, there are steps you need to take before installing to make sure it enjoys a long life as it protects the walls of your house.

Before installing, all four sides of each plank needs to be sealed. This helps protect the wood against rot, insects, and water.

To avoid the look of weeping rust you also want to be sure to use the right fasteners.
